Students came in, chatted a bit about where we are headed, and got a reminder about the quizzlet on apostrophes next class.
After a bit of stretching - and with a quick stretch break in the middle - we finished reading "The Sea Devil."
Students are to create brief notes - not paragraphs - no complete sentences are even required - in relation to the following:
- On a piece of your own paper - draw a plot diagram, and plot out the story on it
- Write down a series of words to describe the setting/atmosphere of the story - note a quotation or two (with page numbers) related to the atmosphere
- What point of view is the story written from? - How do you know? (maybe note a quote for proof?)
- What kind of character is the protagonist? ( flat, round, static, dynamic..)
- **Note 2-3 symbols in the story, and write brief notes about what they represent, and what their purpose is in the story
Again,
these notes are brief - meant to prepare students for group discussions
and ongoing work - There's nothing for building confidence, like
coming to class prepared!
